History of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish

our-lady-of-guadalupe-booyThe Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel was erected thru the efforts of the members of the Junta Director of Booy District, City of Tagbilaran thru fund raising campaign like Reina Elena, Flower of May, Paggawa System, and Fiesta Queen activities.

The introduction of the Gagmayng Simbahanong Katilingban (GSK)loser to awakened the spiritual desire of the faithful in serving and bringing themselves God and became aware of their responsibility to the Church and to the community. Knowing that the Christian community of Booy District, City of Tagbilaran could stand separately from her Mother Parish, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Taloto District, City of Tagbilaran, both in material and spiritual aspects, the members of the Chapel Pastoral Council Finance Council 2002 in a joint meeting agreed to apply for a Pre-Chapliancy.

With concerted efforts of the Councils, thru the leadership of Fr. Nartin Juan S. Legitimas a year ahead Church activities were implemented as planned with the supports of 67 active GSK’s manifested by their participation and submission to all religius and any church activities. They had developed the virtue of love, unity and understanding whom we believe one of the important factor to qualify for a Quasi- Parish.

One of the biggest project that was being prioritized was the “Simbahan Ko….Padak-on Ko Project”, motivated by strong desire and commitment, the officers of the Chapel Pastoral Council and Chapel Finance Council, had exerted efforts to let the people of Booy District be involved in this moritorious project by means of donitions, & solicit from outside the country any Booyanons who were blessed with so many graces to be a part of this spiritual cause.

A joint meeting was held on October 17, 2004 to apply for the elevation of the elevation of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chaplaincy to a full- fledged Quasi Parish.

On December 12, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. a momentous event happened to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chaplaincy when a canonical proclamation was made by His Excellency Most Reverend Leopoldo Tumulak D. D., Bishop of Tagbilaran elevating the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chaplaincy to a full- fledged Quasi- Parish with, Fr. Martin Juan S. Legitimas as Parish Priest.

With the strong desire of the officers of the PPC & CFC, to start immediately the construction of the Church “Simbahan Ko.. Padak-on Ko.”. It was by Hermie Comahig, Chapel Pastoral Council Chairman to effect immediately the laying of the cornerstones, and Bro. Vic Empasis made a suggestion to have it on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005 after the mass Unoninously approved.
